Restored bird’s eye view of the “Grand Encampment from the Southwest”, Wyoming, circa 1910 by Merritt Dana Houghton. Encampment rests at the base of the Sierra Madres, and is the gateway to the Medicine Bow Forest. At the turn of the twentieth century, it was the booming center of copper mining and smelting. The drawing depicts a small town that include houses, buildings, and a tramway carrying buckets of ore to a smelter on the edge of town.
